Embrace the Metal: How Drops is Leading the Way with Sustainable Tin Packaging
January 14, 2025

In an industry drowning in disposable plastics and cheap packaging solutions, Drops is moving different – we embrace the metal. As part of our mission to innovate and stay eco-conscious, we’ve transitioned our entire packaging line and merchandising to tin and metal containers. We love the look, and we love our planet.

The Power of Tin: Why Metal Matters

For too long, the cannabis industry has been dominated by single-use plastic bags, jars, and containers that end up in landfills or, at best, go through uncertain recycling processes. At Drops, all our units are packaged in durable, reusable tin containers. But what makes this change so significant?

  1. Superior Recyclability:

Tin is infinitely recyclable without losing quality. Unlike plastic, which can only be recycled a limited number of times and often degrades into less useful forms, tin and other metals can be continuously reprocessed into new products. This leads to far fewer virgin materials being extracted from the Earth—a major step towards sustainability.

  1. Collection and Recycling Program:

To reinforce our commitment, we’ve implemented a recycling program across all of our partner shops. Customers can drop off used tin containers in our recycling boxes. Our reps regularly collect these boxes and transport them to our facility for recycling pickup. Customers can also recycle their tins at home – we just recycle them in bulk.

Upgrading Our Merchandising: From Posters to Art

Our commitment to metal goes beyond packaging. We’re also upgrading all of our posters and display boards to embossed metal—creating a sleek, durable look that reflects our brand’s identity while reducing waste. Looks great on walls, shelves, cases, you name it.

Why Tin Is Superior to Plastic

Here are a couple key reasons why tin is a better alternative:

  • Durability: Tin containers are built to last. Unlike plastic, which is prone to breaking and degrading, tin remains resilient through rough handling and repeated use.
  • Reduced Environmental Impact: Tin and metal containers have a lower carbon footprint when compared to the production and degradation of plastic. When properly collected and recycled, metal packaging can create a closed-loop system, drastically reducing the amount of waste entering landfills.

In the words of Tenacious D

You can’t kill the Metal

The Metal will live on

Punk Rock tried to kill the Metal

But they failed, as they were smite to the ground

Stay Metal.
